Bold Pasadena

August 12, 2017

Less than one week from this day, I will be moving into my apartment for my second year. Little did I know, it is now going on three weeks AFTER I moved in. Before school started, my family and I went to visit Old Pasadena for the art takeover for the Saturday of Augusts 12.

First up, "Better as Color," by Asli Tusavul. It was really cool how the straws went with the wing and it was just pure colorful and pleasing for the eyes to see.

Second stop, "Vantage Obscura," by Zenah Sakaamini and Arty Vartanyan. It was nice how it is a little stop where you can rest in the chairs and enjoy the perspective of vantage points.

Next stop, "Displacement of Working Objects," by Viviana Palacio. Simple yet creative. Little did I know you can take the orange and place them on the ladders. Discovered this through pictures other people took and posted on Instagram.

After that, "Crystal Lucida," by Sarah Umles was next. It was different because it allowed the visitors to create art and be an artist for a change. You place one of the glass containers on a white piece of paper on the table and trace the shadow. Really cool. I saw some people do it and it turned out really nice and impressive.

Next stop, "Pop-Up Canvases," hosted by Flower Pepper Gallery, featuring many artists, including Maggie Chiang, Amy Van Gilder, Liten Kanin, Vivien Mildenberger, Valerie Pobjoy, Lena Sayadian, Joey Stupor, and Yetis and Friends. They were really cute! A mix of cuteness and creativity all in one. Who knew creating little teepees can become such an explosive artwork.

Next up, "Walking the Pets," by Po Yang Leung. This one was interesting because a visitor gets to see pets in different forms and sizes. My favorite would be the peanut shaped one or the mushroom shaped one.

Then we made it to "The Rainbow Gates," by Abbey Luck. A simple artwork that made a visitor feel free and immersed in color.

Have you considered the many functions of cardboard? Mmm,,, probably not huh? Consider seats. Anali Gharakhani transformed cardboard into chairs for people to rest and sit in. Super cool. In addition, a person can play with these chairs and piece them together as a puzzle!

Ever got poked by cacti? Or more like stabbed? No worries! "Colorful Cacti," by Paul Heintz will not  hurt one's fingers! This artist created a mini desert to enjoy in LA weather with colorful materials. It was really nice.

If you like flowers, then "Rose Garden" by Ash Cano is something you will very much like. Roses were created for visitors to pick and take pictures with. Here, you will find a flower much taller than you can ever imagine. Creative and playful altogether.

"Macro/Micro Waves," by L.L. Kessner was an unique and creative piece of the world in tissue paper. A global view of Earth in a different canvas setting.

Before enjoying art, we went to Umami Burger. So good! It was really good. These burgers were tasteful and the cheesy tots and tempura onion rings were great additions as sides. Happy bellies all around!

If you have an art place you enjoy, let me know! I love to check it out! If there's art, sign me up!

Happy Labor Day everyone! Enjoy the day off!
